Novak Djokovic has already been a Tennis legend during his lifetime. In the tournament’s New York finals, Djokovic overcame the Russian Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 7-6 (5), 6-3 to win his 4th US Open title and 24th Grand Slam title overall. After his 24th Grand Slam title victory at the US Open on Sunday, tennis experts believe that Nole will go down in history as the most successful tennis player of all time. Nobody truly knows when will such an amazing athlete appear in the “white sport” again.
In his home country of Serbia, love for the World No.1 is sure to last forever. Residents of the former Yugoslav republic are recognized for their patriotism and love of sports. Consequently, it’s not a surprise that the 36-year-old was honoured in Belgrade, Serbia’s capital.
The Kula Tower, located in Belgrade is the tallest structure in Serbia. It was illuminated in honour of Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, who by winning the 24th Grand Slam trophy once again astounded the entire world and established himself as the greatest in the history of the “white sport.”
The illumination contained a video of Novak Djokovic with the US Open trophy with “24” and “GOAT” written alongside it. It is truly a tribute befitting for a star like him.
Novak Djokovic reveals his retirement plans
The Serbian ace, at 36, has shown that he is not yet ready to hand the torch to the next generation. The era of the ‘Big Three’ in tennis may be disappearing, with Roger Federer retiring and Rafael Nadal preparing to retire after the next season, but Djokovic, the last member of the triumvirate, proved his enduring power.
Djokovic certainly has his sights set on greater tennis achievements. He remarked regarding his retirement plans by saying “You know, players come and go, It will be the same kind of destiny for me. Eventually one day I will leave tennis in about 23, 24 years.”
He further added “And there are going to be new young players coming up. Until then, I guess you’ll see me a bit more.”
