“Watch out for 2023,” Taylor Townsend shuts her critics up 10 years after being cut off from the USTA due to her weight issues
Caty Mcnally and Taylor Townsend
Taylor Townsend, the 26-year-old American professional finally seems to have made a name for herself with the US Open coming to an end. Taylor reached the doubles final with compatriot Caty Mcnally.
Both the players performed brilliantly at the US Open as they managed to reach the final. Tehir dream of winning the title was halted by the Czech duo of Kateřina Siniaková and Barbora Krejčíková. However, this is nothing short of an achievement for Townsend, considering what happened 10 years ago.
Taylor Townsend hits back at her critics
Taylor Townsend was just 16 in 2012 when the USTA denied her funding for participation at the US Open as she was overweight. From then, till now, her voyage has been one of personal satisfaction.
Cut to 2022, Townsend has improved by leaps and bounds. Talking about her journey, she said, “This has been such an amazing journey. This one hurts but this isn’t the last time I’m gonna be out here, I’m confident of that, I’ve put in the work, I’ve earned my way to be here and I think everyone sees that. And I’m gonna continue to put my head down and grind and this is gonna motivate me to go even harder. So watch out for 2023!”
Townsend, who became a mom 18 months ago, is eager to garner more success on the WTA Tour. Reaching the final of the US Open has acted as a catalyst.
