Former tennis player and World No.1 Roger Federer picks up his racket once again following his emotional farewell to the sport at the 2022 Laver Cup. The Swiss maestro had hung up his racket following the perfect goodbye to his incredibly illustrious career. His retirement was an absolute tear-jerker. However, he was once again spotted with his racket a year later at the same event.

The 42-year-old tennis veteran announced his retirement on Instagram in September 2022. He had announced that he would be playing his very last ATP tournament at the Laver Cup. The final doubles match between the teams was played with Federer and long-time friend and opponent Rafael Nadal for Team Europe. Their opponents were Frances Tiafoe and Jack Sock for Team World. While the Swiss legend lost the match, he had definitely won with respect to the lives he had impacted in tennis over the duration of his career, which spanned over two decades.

However, Federer has returned to the court with racket in hand. He was spotted at the 2023 Laver Cup in Vancouver, Canada. While the Swiss had graced the courts to witness the best tennis played between the team, he had taken to the court to display his flawless slice. He was seen demonstrating his strokes to a group of junior players.

The Swiss maestro had one of the most illustrious tennis careers in history. With a staggering 20 Grand Slam titles, he held on to the record of most Grand Slam in men’s singles for quite a while, until he was overtaken by opponents Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. It is safe to say that the Swiss maestro is one of the most influential tennis players in history.

Roger Federer eyes a captaincy role at the Laver Cup

Swiss legend Roger Federer spoke about a prospective appearance at the Laver Cup as a captain for Team Europe. Federer will attend the sixth edition of the Laver Cup to be held in Vancouver.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion revealed that he would like to remain in the tennis sphere. While he hung up his racket in 2022, he would prefer he stay in the tennis world in some capacity. “Maybe one day, I’ll be the captain of the team. There are no plans as of now, but I think that could be quite nice, “ he said.

Federer has been turning heads and creating waves in tennis for the better part of two decades. However, he has revealed that he would like to continue to do so in any capacity possible.
