WATCH: “Run properly” A Furious Nick Kyrgios shouts at ballboy in his recent outburst
Nick Kyrgios
Back in the Top-50 after 15 months, Nick Kyrgios would have been a little upset after he lost in a crunch semi-final to Hubert Hurkacz at the 2022 Halle Open with the Pole going on to win the title the next day. Kyrgios despite winning the first set couldn’t capitalise on it as Hurkacz won the match 4-6, 7-6(2), 7-6(4) to advance into his fifth finals and by winning it ensured he maintains his 100% winning streak in Tour finals.
Kyrgios had a brilliant run in Halle as, after defeating Daniel Altmaier in the first round, he defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in 3-sets before defeating Pablo Carreno Busta in straight-sets to enter his second semi-final in two weeks. But as the case was in Stuttgart, he lost in the semis once again and continues to wait for his first title since 2019.
“You just put me off”: Nick Kyrgios to the ballboy
The incident between Nick and the ballboy happened during the second set with Kyrgios serving in the fourth game as Hurkacz had taken a 2-1 lead in the set. Nick tried to play a forehand which landed outside and as quickly as the umpire called it out, the Australian turned to the ballboy and said, “You just put me off. Run properly, please.”
The incident occurred during Nick’s service when he missed his first serve and the ball kid had just slipped while picking up the ball. The forehand that landed outside was a result of the rally that started after Nick landed his second serve in but could not control as the game was then tied at 30-30.
