WATCH: “Stop acting like a baby on the court” Stan Wawrinka gives a ‘cold’ reply to Holger Rune holding him accountable for his ‘childlike’ on-court behavior
Holger Rune and Stan Wawrinka
3-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka showed his ‘veteran’ side on the tennis court as he gave some insightful lessons to Holger Rune for his ‘childlike’ behavior at the Paris Masters. Wawrinka faced Rune in the first round of the Paris Masters and despite winning the first set, he lost the match in a three-set thriller 6-4,7-5,7-6(3).
During the customary handshake after the match ended, Wawrinka hugged Rune and exchanged some words, after which he was shocked. Wawrinka, being a veteran, is respected a lot in the circuit, and Rune, who is a junior, didn’t want to be in Wawrinka’s bad books. The Swiss wasn’t happy with Rune’s on-court attitude and called it out.
He told the teenager to behave himself and told him to stop acting like a baby on the court. He was referring to Rune’s constant whining during the match. “Stop acting like a baby on the court,” Wawrinka told a shocked Rune.
Holger Rune gets some heat from the tennis fans
Ever since switching coaches and working with Patrick Mouratoglou in the last few weeks, Rune has shown some significant results over the last two weeks. He won the Stockholm Open and then followed it up by reaching the final of the Swiss Indoors last week. He lost to in-form Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final but defeated some top players.
But despite his good results, Rune’s attitude is something that is questionable for a very long time. He has been called out for his attitude many times and now, with Wawrinka stating the obvious, makes matters only worse for him. Tennis fans on social media were very unhappy with this and clarified that if Rune has to step up the ladder, then he has to let go of this ‘bratlike’ and ‘childlike’ attitude.
