Daniil Medvedev is one player who has not been in action for a while. As the season inch closer to the finale of the clay season with the French Open, Medvedev opens up about his experience at the Australian Open and announces his comeback on the tour.
The Russian has not been on the tour since his defeat in the quarter-finals against Hubert Hurkacz at the Miami Open. He suffered from Hernia and hence has been out from most of the clay-court action. Now as he comebacks to the tour, he does so by openly criticizing the crowd at the Australian Open in his recent press conference.
Daniil Medvedev thinks he is ready for the clay-court drama
Medvedev tells the truth as he speaks up at the media day in Geneva, being disappointed by the reaction of the crowd at the Australian Open final against Rafael Nadal as he says “The kid in me stopped dreaming today”.
The year has not started off well for Daniil Medvedev as he lost the final in Australia followed by a hernia operation. After having a great outing at the US Open things have gone downhill for him. The year seemed to be a tough mental as well as physical test for the World No.2. He, however, has responded well to the challenges and thinks himself to be fit for the French Open as he says “I feel great. Managed to get around I would say two weeks of good practice and one week of full practice. Decided that it’s going to be good to prepare (for the) French Open, to get some matches here. Some matches, hopefully, more than one. I’m feeling good. Physically, I’m feeling ready, “ Medvedev said ahead of his comeback.
Medvedev has stated numerous times that he is uncomfortable on clay. However, it appears that the tables have turned, as the Russian in his recently published practice video appears to enjoy the red dirt. He even captioned it with “loving it”.
Medvedev counts on the Geneva Open as the preparation for the Roland Garros. He would be facing Richard Gasquet in the round of 16. He is yet to win any title on the clay court. Geneva Open seems to be a nice opportunity. It has always been tough for Daniil Medvedev on the clay court. The challenge looks even bigger with him just coming back from a break and having not enough match practice before Roland Garros.
