Ons Jabeur helping Belinda Bencic
Ons Jabeur and Belinda Bencic locked horns in the finals of the 2022 Berlin Open, the first of the two WTA-500 grasscourt tournaments in the buildup to the Grand Slam in Wimbledon. The match had a premature end as Bencic injured herself and could not continue handing a walkover at 6-3, 2-1 with Ons leading the match.
With the walkover, Ons becomes the second active WTA player after World No. 1 Iga Swiatek to win multiple titles this season. This was Ons’ second grasscourt title and third career title as she picked up her 30th win of the season joining Swiatek in the 30-wins for the season club. The match will however be remembered for the sportsmanship gesture that Ons showed when Belinda first hurt herself.
