The PTPA has recently tweeted that they support Ukraine on their official Twitter handle. PTPA is the professional tennis player association founded by the players Vasek Pospisil and Novak Djokovic. The work of PTPA is basically to collaborate with the ATP, WTA, Grand slams, and other tournaments to facilitate an equitable and sustainable competitive environment for tennis players today and for generations to come. The PTPA represents the top 500 players in singles and top 200 players in doubles of the ATP rankings.

The PTPA was formed to target reforms such as increasing prize money for the competition, and greater transparency when it comes to revenue sharing. It was officially formed in 2021 by Novak and Pospisil and Carrie Gerlach Cecil is the CEO of this organization.

In their post, the PTPA said “We strongly denounce the Russian and Belarus invasion of Ukraine. We recognize that we cannot stop the violence but our collective voice can be used to support Ukraine and its citizens who continue to advocate for peace and justice. The PTPA is committed to learning from and protecting our tennis both privately and publicly. We have listened to many individuals who are deeply impacted by this war and thank them for sharing their stories.”

As major competition throughout our sport contemplates banning Russian and Belarusian athletes, we have to reflect and understand that many of them have lost the freedom of their choice and expression due to the laws being enforced by the Russian and Belarus Federations. speaking against Russia or Belarus or denouncing the invasion may result in imprisonment. The PTPA does not discriminate against any tennis player based on nationality but will stand against those who support, express, or commit violence against the innocent,” the statement added.

In the tweet, PTPA tried to say that they are against Russia and Belarus for invading Ukraine. However, they believe that the Russian and Belarusian players should not get banned (from Wimbledon). The PTPA is of the thought that no discrimination should be made on the basis of a player’s nationality. Just like the ATP, WTA, and many others the PTPA also disagrees with Wimbledon on banning Russian and Belarusian players.
