Aryna Sabalenka gave a voice to the difference in prize money for men and women except for the four major Grand Slams. At the press conference of Indian Wells, Aryna shared her thoughts about gender inequality. Thta’s not all, the tennis star even made the list of Grand Slams winners since the last Australian Open in January.
Arya Sabalenka said in her interview, “It would be good news if we received the same awards. I think it’s difficult to compare men and women because we’re at different levels. It is true that we are not as strong physically and that we do not reach the level of the boys, but I think we need more money, it would be very important.”
According to her, she believes that female players need equal more money than male players. There is a huge difference in the prize money distribution for WTA and ATP players. It would be appreciated if WTA players receive the same amount of prize money as the ATP players. ATP players receive around 73% more prize money than WTA players.
Although, it’s somehow true that female players do not reach the same level as male players, they need the money more than them. WTA players might not be physically strong as them or perform like them. But they still give their best and it must be very well appreciated. Both the players put their best into everything in their own ways.
Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula on prize difference
Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula addressed gender inequality in prize distribution. WTA players receive a lot less prize money amount than ATP players. Jessica showed her discomfort on the same after Denis Shapovalov showed his concern the same. Sharapov addressed this in the Player’s Tribune. Jessica being a billionaire does not stop her from addressing this pay gap. According to her, she is not doing this for the present WTA players but for the upcoming generations too.
Shapovalov showed his concern after his girlfriend confronted him about the prize money. His girlfriend is also a tennis player and she told him that she got $250 when she made it in the top 250 whereas the ATP players receive $7000 for the same. This huge gap is no longer entertained by the players as they are speaking up for themselves.
