Competing at the Cincinnati Open, Serena Williams faced 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu in the first-round fixture of the tournament. in the twilight of her career, everyone rooted for Serena to win the tie but unfortunately for millions around the world, 19-year-old Emma Raducanu came up as the victor as she won the match 6-4, 6-0.

Talking about Williams after the match, Raducanu was short on words of praise for the American legend, she said, “I think we all need to just honor Serena and her amazing career, I’m so grateful for the experience of being able to play her and for our careers to cross over. Everything that she’s achieved is so inspirational and it was a true honor to share the court with her.

It is no secret that Emma Raducanu is a longtime Serena Williams fan like so many people around the world, heaping praise on the American legend, Raducanu made it clear that it was an honour to be able to get the opportunity to share the court with a legend of such a stature like Serena.

Talking about her victory, she said, “I think it’s important to really cherish the wins, because I think that if anything, this year has taught me that the wins don’t come by easily. No matter what win that is, it means a lot to any athlete, and I definitely am going to take it in, be really proud of myself. But it is a fast turnover tomorrow, and I probably have got 12 hours until I’m back on site. I’m playing another Slam champion tomorrow, so it’s obviously going to be really difficult. Just going to try to prepare as best as possible.

Emma Raducanu will be up against 2-time Grand Slam winner Viktoria Azarenka in the next round of the Cincinnati Open.
