“We never have to play tennis again,” Nick Kyrgios drops a massive retirement bombshell following his win over Daniil Medvedev at the 2022 US Open

Nick Kyrgios
World No. 25 and the 23rd seed at the 2022 US Open, Nick Kyrgios has made his way into the quarter-finals of the Grand Slam making it into the last-8 at the Grand Slam for the very first time in his career. Kyrgios achieved the result with a 4-set win over Daniil Medvedev.
Medvedev was the defending champion this year at the US Open but the World No. 1 fell short in front of the Australian yet again as Kyrgios picked up a 7-6(11), 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over the top seed to end his title defence and assured that Medvedev won’t be World No. 1 next week.
Nick Kyrgios hints at retirement at the end of the 2022 US Open

Kyrgios after his win over Medvedev gave yet another candid press conference talking on various topics including his motivation to play at the moment. Nick then suddenly had the room in confusion when he talked about stepping away from the sport and in what condition will he take such a step.
Having spoken about retirement at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships where he finished runner-up, Kyrgios emphasised the point yet again saying, “Three more matches potentially then we never have to play tennis again,” hinting that if indeed wins the US Open this year, it could be his last match.
Kyrgios had talked about finding it difficult to be motivated in case he wins a Grand Slam title and by his statement in the press conference, it was clear that by ‘three more matches’ he did mean that one major is all he is seeking to end his career on a high note and look for other things in life.
Nick will however have a tough road as he is set to take on Karen Khachanov in the quarter-finals followed by a meeting between either Matteo Berrettini and Casper Ruud in the semi-finals and he could need to take on Rafael Nadal in the finals of the Grand Slam.
