Andy Murray, who is never the last to publicly defend his compatriots, has defended Emma Raducanu once again, not sparing the English press as she continues to fight to perform well after her remarkable championship at the US Open 2021.

Emma Raducanu acknowledged feeling pressurized by expectations shortly after winning the 2021 US Open as an 18-year-old, in a recent interview. After that tremendous US Open campaign, the young tennis sensation felt she was expected to win every tournament she entered. The teenager was also chastised around the world for failing to live up to expectations after her historic victory since she was unable to produce an exceptional field result.

Andy Murray, nevertheless, has declared his support for his compatriot. He’s also shared his suffering story, revealing that he, too, faced troubles early in his career, similar to Raducanu’s. He stated, “There must be a certain respect between the player and the press. I also had problems early in my career because some of the things I said were taken out of context, or some jokes were the subject of articles and headlines, making the relationship a bit tense and negative. You have to let Emma be who she is. I’m sure a lot of these people made mistakes and said things they shouldn’t have said when they were eighteen or nineteen. It’s the same for us sports people, we shouldn’t judge her so harshly and I think that would help Emma a lot.” (Google translated)
