Cosimo Napolitano defended the Tennis Napoli Cup management

The Tennis Napoli Cup’s organizers are ready to get over with the tournament and put the controversy surrounding the ATP 250 tournament‘s inferior courts behind them. The poor quality of the tennis courts at this year’s Tennis Napoli Cup competition sparked a lot of discussion on social media.

The uproar started because of the terrible condition of the courts. This dire state of the courts was blamed on the rains. Due to the preceding few days’ copious rains, the synthetic mantle virtually peeled off under the players’ feet during training.

Tennis Napoli Cup ATP 250 tournament

Tennis Napoli Cup is organized every year as a Challenger tournament in the ATP tour. For the first time in its long history, it was upgraded as an ATP 250 tournament only for one year making it an important event in the men’s tennis calendar. In this first year, the tournament has found itself in the middle of a lot of controversies.

He also tried to shift all the blame on the company which helped to organize the tournament, Mapei. “Mapei is a world leader company. When it is all over, we will meet and talk about it. I would like to resolve it without dispute, but I will ask for satisfaction. Because what happened in the first two days caused everything else to cascade.

“But again: we worked like crazy to immediately find solutions that allowed us to hold the tournament here in Naples. The ATP could have taken the tournament elsewhere,” he retorted.

On the question of the great criticism the organizers have to face on social media, Mr. Napolitano praised his staff and workers for trying to make the tournament a grand success.

“Anyone who makes a controversy on social media is an imbecile. It’s easy to get confused, without knowing the work behind it. I’m here, I put my face to it and answer everyone,” he added.

But the controversies regarding the Tennis Napoli Cup tournament do not end with the sub-par courts. The players also expressed dissatisfaction with the logistics and lodging issues that arose throughout the competition.

Nicolas Barrientos even witnessed the removal of his and his wife’s belongings from his hotel room and throwing them into the lobby. While it all happened, he was engaged in a match. Today the men’s singles final shall be played between the Italians Lorenzo Musetti and Matteo Berrettini drawing the tournament to a close.
