World No. 12 and the 9th seed at the 2022 US Open, Andrey Rublev missed out on his chance to reach his maiden Grand Slam semi-final as the 22nd seeded Frances Tiafoe proved too good for the Russian as he won the match 7-6(3), 7-6(0), 6-4 to dump Rublev out.

While Tiafoe becomes the first black man since Arthur Ashe himself to reach the US Open semi-finals, it was a tough night for Rublev who had fought hard to make his way to the quarter-finals winning two very close matches but could not bring the same game against Tiafoe.

“Crowd did not help,” Tennis Fans on watching Andrey Rublev crying in the middle of the match

After two narrow tiebreaker defeats, Rublev found himself behind in the match and was emotionally stirred due to it and in the middle of the 3rd set, the Russian broke down in tears despite the match still in progress. Rublev was seen holding the ball between his teeth before covering his face in his towel.

With the crowd backing the local boy Tiafoe, there was little support for Rublev in the Arthur Ashe Stadium during the quarter-final bout and realising that he has narrowly missed out on a major semi-final, the Russian could not control his emotions and let his tears flow sitting on his bench.

Tennis fans on Twitter however showed compassion for Rublev who has talked about mental health struggles and with him crying during the match, the social media showed their love for the Russian and sent him good wishes hoping that he recovers from this.
