“What a choice of picture,” Victoria Azarenka slams José Morgado over obscene image used for Ekaterina Alexandrova

Morgado vs Vika

The Belarusian star, Victoria Azarenka expressed her disapproval towards a tennis journalist, Jose Morgado yesterday. He employed an unsuitable image of Ekaterina Alexandrova, a Russian tennis player, to inform tennis fans about her victory in the opening round of the 2023 Qatar Open. On the first day of the 2023 Qatar Open, Russian tennis player Ekaterina won a remarkable victory over Karolina Pliskova.

The former World No. 1 and a previous winner of the Qatar Open in 2017 faced a shocking defeat. Alexandrova won the match in straight sets, with a score of 6-1, 6-2, showcasing her incredible form and skill. Tennis journalist Jose Morgado took to social media to share the news of Alexandrova’s remarkable win with his followers. However, instead of choosing an appropriate picture of the player, he used an inappropriate image that showed her in a vulnerable state.

The photo choice received a lot of attention on social media, with fans and other journalists criticizing Morgado’s decision. Victoria Azarenka, a Belarusian tennis player and former World No. 1, expressed her disapproval of the journalist’s actions, stating that it was not appropriate to use such a photo of a player after their victory.

She took to her Twitter and tweeted by saying “What a choice of picture for the tweet.” However, Jose deleted his tweet immediately after it was being projected in a wrong way. He further tweeted later about this incident and said “Seriously? It was the first frame where the score/time graphic appeared on the screen,” and had a laugh about it.

He further tweeted saying “Deleted. This was the relevant information to illustrate what I tweeted. Not the background (obviously). Unfortunate and unintentional. Sorry. (It’s been a tough day…).”

Fans slam Jose Morgado over his inappropriate tweets

Earlier, Jose Morgado faced criticism for incorrectly reporting a muscle tear in French player Ugo Humbert, which appeared to be a mockery of Novak Djokovic‘s hamstring injury. He had a history of many such incidents where he objectified women and got into trouble.

Fans supported the fact that Vika brought it up, questioned Jose and stood behind her. They also reminded her that it was not his first time and shared a few past incidents where he used inappropriate tweets. However, Vika was also abused by him, and many fans reminded her of that tweet from him.

Few fans went on to tweet by saying “For those wondering what the photo was. Tag @atp and @WTA so they can see what their little journalist is up to. Highly unprofessional and degrading to all female athletes on tour. No respect.”
