Nick Kyrgios, the 27-year-old Australian is one of the most popular players in the world right now. Currently ranked at world number 28, Kyrgios has been enjoying a fairly successful season this time around. The Australian professional reached the finals of Wimbledon a few weeks ago where he was beaten by Novak Djokovic for the title, following that Kyrgios went all the way to lift the Citi Open title as well.
Known less for his playing ability, Kyrgios is more popular amongst the media and the fans due to his antics both on and off the court, constantly getting into arguments with the chair umpires, being disrespectful to fellow players and hecklers in the crowd, Nick Kyrgios has maintained quite an image of himself.
Tennis Twitter calls out Nick Kyrgios over comments on Pablo Carreno Busta’s title win
Pablo Carreno Busta, the 31-year-old Spaniard has recently become a popular talking point among the fans and the media as he recently won the biggest title of his career. Carreno Busta went all the way to beat Hubert Hurkacz in the finals of the Canadian Open, the Spaniard beat Kurkacz 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the final to lift the Master’s title.
However, amidst Carreno Busta’s victory, an old comment of Nick Kyrgios became a talking point among fans on Twitter, back in September 2020, Nick Kyrgios said that Pablo Carreno Busta was just a clay specialist and the Spaniard wouldn’t be close to the top 50 in the ranks if clay courts did not exist, this caused a tiff among the two players that continues to this day.
After Carreno Busta’s latest title win at the Canadian Open, those tweets resurfaced as fans called out Kyrgios over his disrespectful behavior towards the Spaniard still continues to this day. In a Tweet made by ‘We are Tennis’, the stats of Carreno Busta and Nick Kyrgios were being compared and the Wimbledon finalist is seen falling behind the Spaniard.
Replying to the tweet, Kyrgios said, “Nah I am good, Our head-to-head is a laugh,” He received a lot of backlash from the fans over his comments.
