8th seed and the daughter of billionaire Terry Pegula, Jessica Pegula bowed out in the quarterfinal of the 2022 US Open. The American No.1 lost the match in straight sets 3-6,6-7(4) to lose in the quarterfinal of a major yet again. Both Swiatek and Pegula are amongst the best players and were projected to have a high-quality match but the exact opposite happened.

The first set started on a decent note but both players made a lot of errors. While they were hitting timely winners, most of it was on serve and they found it difficult to engage in long rallies. But it was the Pole who bagged the decisive break and went on to win the opening set 6-3.

But the second set was even worse than the first. Both players struggled to hold their serve and made things even worse with their horrendous shot selection. There were hardly any exciting rallies as both lost serves regularly. Out of the 12 games played, both players lost serve a combined 10 times. Even in the tie-breaker, the first 5 points were won by the receiver. It was not as if the receiver was playing well throughout the match, it was the server who bottles things up. Swiatek eventually won the tie-breaker 7-6(4) to reach her maiden US Open semifinal.
