Novak Djokovic
World No. 3 Novak Djokovic is two wins away from winning his 7th Wimbledon title and his 21st career Grand Slam title at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. The Serbian is the 3-time defending champion at this year’s Championships and is into the semi-finals already with a mouth-watering clash against home favourite and British No. 1 Cameron Norrie awaiting him.
Djokovic had a narrow escape from a defeat in the quarter-finals when he found himself 2-sets down against Jannik Sinner. In the changeover, Djokovic had to give himself a pep talk to return and win the next three sets to clinch his 26th consecutive win at Wimbledon and deny Sinner his first Grand Slam semi-final after a good run in the All-England Club this year.

While Novak is moving closer to his 21st major, this week could be the final week of Grand Slam action of the season for the former World No. 1 who will fall to World No. 7 upon the conclusion of Wimbledon as he will lose all of his 2000 points from last year’s Championships due to the decision of ATP to remove ranking points from Wimbledon as the Grand Slam banned Russian and Belarusian players. This, along with the current vaccine regulations of the USA that require foreigners to show proof of vaccination will see Novak miss the 2022 US Open.
“I wouldn’t say I have a whole new motivation because of the circumstances. I’m always very motivated to show my best tennis at the Grand Slam tournaments, especially here, which is probably the most important tournament in the history of our sport. I have always said that this tournament and this Center Court made me want to play tennis. My childhood dream was to be here.
“Every time I step onto the pitch, I feel compelled to give my best, motivated also by the setting of this pitch and this tournament. What happens after Wimbledon is unpredictable, so I don’t pay too much attention to it. I’m trying to direct my thoughts to the present moment and we’ll see what happens,” said Djokovic in comments reported by WeloveTennis.
