China Open Tournament (ATP)
Beijing returns to the ATP calendar as it hosts the 22nd edition of the ATP 500 China Open at the National Tennis Center. The tournament features one of the most thrilling first-round draws of the 2023 season. Dominic Thiem was the winner of the last version of the event, in 2019. The Austrian has given the chance to defend his title a miss as he prepares to play in the ATP 250 Astana Open. Record 6-time champion and World No.1 Novak Djokovic is the headline absentee at the tournament. The main draw begins on Thursday, 28th September.
This will also be the 24th edition of the WTA tournament. The China Open is a WTA 1000 tournament on the 2023 WTA Tour, which will be held from September 30 to October 8. The tournament will be historic in the sense that it will offer the highest prize money out of any WTA or ATP event outside of the Year-End Championships.

On the women’s side, Naomi Osaka won the last edition of the tournament, held in 2019. The women’s entry list features almost the whole of the top 50 in the WTA rankings.
