‘When you go to a party?’ Iga Swiatek shuts up a reporter asking an untoward question after her French Open victory

Iga Swiatek

There have always been some very weird questions for the players during the press conferences and Iga Swiatek too faced one such question after her title victory at the French Open 2022. Swiatek just blew past Coco Gauff as she defeated the 18-year-old 6-1, 6-3 to win her 2nd French Open title and her sixth consecutive title.

She has also extended her win streak to 35 matches, equaling the record of Venus Williams‘ longest win streak in the Open Era in women’s tennis. Swiatek will have an opportunity to cross Venus as she enters the grass season. The post-win press conference was filled with great questions from the reporter and equally insightful answers from Swiatek. But, there was a moment when a reporter asked Swiatek a very puzzling question. He asked:

“Q. One technical question and one which is not. The technical is: What is your best shot? Someone says it’s the forehand; someone says it’s the return down-the-line backhand. What do you think? This is the first question. The second question is: Outside of the court, when you go to a party, do you use makeup? Do you like to go elegant and smart and so on? Because many players we have seen in the past, they were staying hours in front of the mirror before going on court and using the makeup. And you seem very natural like this.”

Iga Swiatek gives a great answer to a poor question by a reporter.

The question made no sense at all and Swiatek gave a very good answer to finish the question.

She said: “Okay. Thank you.”

For someone to ask such a weird question to a player who has just won the Grand Slam title despite all the pressure building up and playing a different level of tennis than all of her competitors is just shameful. Swiatek’s response summed up the nature of the question.

Iga would possibly slow down for a while to soak all of her achievements in before starting her run on grass to push her win streak and continue with her title hunts. She has now become a huge favorite to win any and every tournament she participates in.
