Chair Umpire's seat for Wimbledon 2022

The Wimbledon 2022 will have its finals for women’s singles on 9th July at 2:00 PM local time on the Center Court with the match being played between the 3rd seed Ons Jabeur and 17th seed Elena Rybakina. Jabeur is currently ranked 2nd in the WTA rankings while Rybakina occupies the 23rd spot in the rankings.

Both the players will be playing in their first-ever Grand Slam singles finals and have put in splendid performances over the last fortnight to get themselves in contention for the Venus Rosewater Dish. Elena has dropped only 1 set throughout this year’s Wimbledon, winning her quarter-final match against Ajla Tomljanovic in 3-sets. As for Ons, she had to go the distance in both of her quarter-final and semi-final clashes.

Chair umpire in the finals of Women’s singles at Wimbledon 2022

Aurelie Tourte

For the finals, the chair umpire will be Aurelie Tourte from France. Aurelie will be officiating in her 7th Grand Slam final while this will be her first women’s singles finals at the historic All-England Club. The Frenchwoman became the fifth woman to officiate in a men’s singles Grand Slam final when she oversaw the match between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Novak Djokovic at the 2021 French Open.

Tourte has been one of the few to officiate in big finals on both the WTA and ATP Tour and also has the reputation for being strict with her calls which has led to multiple altercations over her career as the chair umpire. She has had altercations with Djokovic, Serena Williams and Daniil Medvedev as well.
