World No. 1 Novak Djokovic looks on track to clinch his record-extending 11th Australian Open title. The Serbian hero has stormed into the quarterfinals already, and his performances have only improved with each passing round. A set each was taken from him in the first two rounds, much to the surprise of his fans.
But in his matches in rounds three and four, Nole wrapped them in straight sets. French veteran Adrian Mannarino was at the end of a merciless thrashing.
The Serb won the match 6-0, 6-0, 6-3 to reach the last. In the process, he also tied old nemesis Roger Federer for most Grand Slam quarter-finals at 58 apiece.
As he prepared for the business end of the Grand Slam event, he shared his training montage from Melbourne Park. The video showed him undergoing various exercises in the gym to maintain his fitness. While the fans were left in absolute awe of him, Nole’s wife, Jelena Djokovic, had a massive FOMO (feeling of missing out).
Sharing the video on her Instagram story, she captioned it, ‘Ouch’ followed by the face with heart eyes emoji. While Mrs. Djokovic often makes her way to the big events, one can expect her in the stands if the King of Melbourne Park reaches the final yet again.
Novak Djokovic’s supreme record at the Australian Open
Rafael Nadal made the French Open his backyard by winning 14 titles in 18 years. His first came in 2005 during his tournament debut, with the 14th coming in 2022, his last appearance at the Major.
While Novak Djokovic doesn’t have a similar record in Australia, it is certainly worth noting.
Djokovic has won a record 10 titles at the Grand Slam. He won his first in 2008 and the latest in 2023. He has never lost a semi-final or a final at the Major. The World No. 1 has a win-loss record of 93-8 in main-draw matches. Since winning his first title, he has won the tournament 10 out of the 15 times he has played.
Taking nothing away from Nadal, it is essential to note, that Djokovic has won at least 92 matches in three of the four Grand Slam events.
The 24-time Grand Slam last lost a quarter-final match in Melbourne Park back in 2014. Eventual champion Stan Wawrinka defeated him in an epic 5-setter before winning the title.
With 12th-seeded Taylor Fritz set to lock horns with Nole, it will be an interesting clash to see if the new generation can break through the shackles.
