Emma Raducanu has been struggling quite a lot recently. Two of her last three losses resulted due to her mid-game retirement. She was also knocked out of the French Open in the second round, after being up a set. Raducanu hoped to get some momentum in the grass season, but unfortunately in her first match of the season itself, she retired. Raducanu has been facing a lot of pressure due to all of her struggles.
She had made a miraculous run at the US Open 2021, becoming the first qualifier to win the Grand Slam. She had also reached the fourth round at Wimbledon and was hoping to do better this time, being ranked number 12 in the world. But unfortunately, she will have to see if her retirement was not a serious issue. Raducanu’s extremely poor show has been mainly attributed to a lot of coaching changes and loads of pressure.
Twitter however claims to have seen all of this once before, they think that all of this happening to Raducanu is exactly what happened to Maria Sharapova as she could also have achieved more than five grand slams in her career.

Maria Sharapova is a former world number 1, and five-time Grand Slam Champion. She had won the 2004 Wimbledon at the age of 17 years old and had become a huge sensation. She signed multiple endorsement deals and modeling and advertisement deals over the years and some people believe that all of the money coming in from these lucrative avenues distracted her, otherwise she could have achieved much more.
Those same folks think that same is true for Raducanu as well. She became an overnight celebrity after the US Open triumph. She also signed multiple endorsement and advertisement deals. Becoming so famous so quickly and having alternate income streams puts a lot of distractions and it also affects her more and that’s why there’s such a sharp decline in her game post US Open.
But, Others have called it heresy and have argued that Sharapova was one of the most dedicated tennis players ever and it is entirely false that she was distracted by the brand deals. The major reason for her performance decline as widely known was a major shoulder injury. Raducanu however has a point to prove in her coming matches that she is still a fierce competitor and an amazing player.
