Spanish Tennis Federation medical head Ángel Ruíz-Cotorro, who is also known as the long-time personal doctor of Rafael Nadal, recently revealed in an interview that the secret to the 22-time Grand Slam champion’s success is simply hard work and passion for the sport.

Ruiz-Cotorro was talking to a Peru-based publication called El Comercio when he also talked about Nadal’s fatherhood and how he is back to training well for the remainder of the season after his wife Maria recently gave birth to a baby girl.

“I think the secret is hard work, passion for the sport, trying to improve every day, and having outstanding physical tennis qualities. He is a historic player for our sport and there he continues to give us joy,” Ruiz-Cotorro said.

“Rafa is fine, very happy with his fatherhood. Once that situation is fulfilled, which logically takes you out of the day to day, he is training well and following the schedule for the end of the season,” Ruiz-Cotorro added.

The Big Three debate is among the most discussed topics not only in tennis, but in the entire sporting community. Fans and pundits have their own views on the same, and a consensus is almost impossible to reach at this point. Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic share 63 major titles among themselves, with the Spaniard leading the pack with 22 majors.

Recently, Federer bid adieu to the tennis community after an emotional farewell Doubles fixture with Nadal at the Laver Cup 2022. Boxing great and one of the most renowned sporting celebrities Mike Tyson was asked to pick his favorite among the Big Three.

In the ‘Advantage Connors’ podcast, Mike Tyson showered praise on Roger Federer, and stated that he loved to watch him play in his prime. He also reserved praise for Novak Djokovic, who claimed his 21st major title at Wimbledon 2022. However, he did not have many good things to say about Rafael Nadal.

“Djokovic, definitely, and Federer. Talking about Djokovic, he came back from all those injuries,” Tyson said. “You know, I love Djokovic personally but I’m just a big fan of Federer. When he was in his prime, he was always moving in the air. He’s smooth. He’s really smooth. Nadal was just all over the place. He’s a great player, but he doesn’t look great playing. Federer is smooth and very elegant,” Tyson said.

“Novak Djokovic is my favorite at the moment. If he is okay, I really like to watch him. He is my favorite because the way he has come back from injury and beaten guys like Nadal and Federer is amazing. He’s a true fighter,” the former boxer added.
