Serena Williams, undoubtedly one of the greatest female players of all time, will finally bid adieu to her professional journey after the 2022 US Open. Her retirement has left the world shocked as she has been a major role to play in popularizing women’s tennis and leaving behind her own legacy in her own unique way over the vast period which lasted more than two decades. There are millions who have been inspired by her journey and set out following her footsteps.
The former World number one is a 23-time singles Grand Slam champion, the most by any player in the Open era and she clinched her first major singles title in the year 1999 winning the US Open title. She will be looking to end her last innings on a good note probably ending on a winning note. She returned to the court after a gap of one year at the grasscourt season but faced early exits owing to dealing with injuries and fitness issues. She was looking to enjoy her final matches at the hard court but her stint was shortlived facing early round exits.
She lost to Belinda Bencic in the second round at the Canadian Open followed by another disappointing loss to the young Brit Emma Raducanu in the first round at the Western & Southern Open. She will begin her lap facing Danka Kovinic of Montenegro in the first round in New York.

Serena Williams shared a post on her social media account on Instagram breaking the saddest news where she mourned the loss of her dog Lauerlei Linkogle Williams who was with her as a constant supporter since May 2004. She was left shocked by her loss but also happy that her dog had a great life and lived for such long years since her dog had been dealing with some health issues. She along with a series of photos of the white little pup had mentioned the last few moments, especially the things she liked the most. She said “She got to get anything she ever wanted and she was biting toes till the end. Literally. She loved chicken and acrobatics.“
Serena and her sister Venus Williams, have received a wild-card entry to play as the doubles pair at the US Open which will be their last outing and it is their comeback at the US Open after 2014. The Williams sisters played their last doubles match at the French Open in 2018 failing to make it past the Round of 16.
