Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka is finally making her much-anticipated return to the court after taking a year-long break. Naomi Osaka took the break because she was pregnant with her first child and considered it more important to give time to her family.
She gave birth to her baby daughter Shai in July, and now that it’s been four months, the 26-year-old is set to make a comeback. Naomi Osaka’s target was to make her return in the 2024 Australian Open.
However, she needs match fitness to play in such a competitive tournament and thus she is making her return to the Brisbane International, which will be played from 31st December to 7th January. It is a perfect tournament for the Japanese to get into form ahead of the Australian Open.
Ahead of Naomi Osaka’s return, her coach, Wim Fisette, has made a really big comment, saying that the fans will see the best version of Naomi ever on her return and that she is ready for the Australian Open.
I think we're going to see the best Naomi ever with her return. We took the time to work on things we didn't have time for before. Physically, we started from scratch, but she will be ready for the Australian tour, the first stop of which will be Brisbane. He said via We Love Tennis
Wim Fisette has been Naomi Osaka’s coach since the tail end of 2019. Under his wing, Naomi Osaka won the 2020 US Open and the 2021 Australian Open. They split up last July when the player took a break. However, when she started to practice again for her return, Naomi hired Wim Fisette back.
Naomi Osaka reveals that she initially thought Iga Swiatek hated her
Naomi Osaka and Iga Swiatek have met quite a few times on tours, despite only facing each other twice in total. The two have an even head-to-head record, as each of them has defeated the other once. The Japanese revealed last year in an Instagram live with Iga Swiatek that when she first saw the Polish, she thought that she hated her.
Naomi Osaka said:
I was surprised because I thought you hated me or something... so the entire time, I was like, 'Oh, no!
When Naomi Osaka saw Iga Swiatek for the first time in Birmingham, the Polish was staring at her, which made her feel that way. However, when they later met in Toronto, Naomi Osaka realized that Iga was a really good person.
