World No. 12 Jelena Ostapenko started her Wimbledon season against Oceane Dodin in the first round and won quite comfortably. She then faced Yanina Wickmayer in the second round and it was an easy win yet again for her. Then she faced the youngster Irina-Camelia Begu in the third round and it was an intensive battle for her. Ostapenko lost the first set to Begu and fell behind, she picked herself up and bounced back at the right time delivering an invincible performance in back-to-back sets letting Begu just win one game per set. Ostapenko won the match quite impressively in the end by 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 and progressed to the round of 16.

On the other hand, Tatjana Maria came up against Australia’s Astra Sharma and had to work hard to get past her in a three-set match after falling behind in the first set. She then faced Sorana Cirstea in the second round and despite having an easy first set, she lost the second set. With all to play for in the third set, Tatjana came up against all odds to beat the 26th-ranked Romanian in the third set and win the match eventually by 6-3, 1-6, 7-5 to book a place in the round of 32. She then faced Sakkari in the third round tie and played beautifully to win the match 6-3, 7-5, and booked her place in the fourth round.
