World No. 4 Paula Badosa has had an on-off kind of season beginning the year with the title in Sydney and also getting to the last 16 at the Australian Open. She also made it to the semifinals in Indian Wells and the quarterfinals in Miami and Charleston. Since her comeback from injury, Badosa has been in fine touch and has not lost a single set in the three matches she has played in Wimbledon so far. She faced Louisa Chirico in the first round tie and beat her easily. Then she faced the experienced Petra Kvitova and battled her way into the next round. She then beat Irina Bara 6-3, 6-2 in the third round tie to progress to the round of 16.

Former World No. 1 Simona Halep faced Karolina Muchova in the first round, who was in brilliant form and Muchova took an early lead to go 3-1 up in the first set. Muchova was unable to hold onto the lead and in the end, Halep outplayed her time and time again winning the match comfortably in the end. Then she faced Magdalena Frech and it was an easy win for her then she went on to face Kirsten Flipkens and Flipkens was no match for the two-time Grand Slam winner and Halep comfortably beat her 7-5, 6-4, and progressed into the round of 16.
