World No. 14 Taylor Fritz faced Lorenzo Musetti in the first-round tie, and Fritz beat him quite comfortably in straight sets to qualify to the next round. He then faced the local boy Alastair Gray. He started the match in fine fashion and went past Alastair with ease in the first set. Alastair backfired and gave a tough competition in the second set taking the set into the tie-breaker. Fritz won the tie breaker and in the third set he again set a tone that watches very difficult for Alastair to match win and he finally won the match by 6-3, 7-6(3), 6-3 progressing into the next round.

On the other hand, Alex Molcan faced Pedro Martinez in the first round. It took him four sets to go past him and then he took on Marcos Giron in the second round. It was again an easy match for Molcan as he finished the match in 3 straight sets. Giron never really troubled him and Molcan eventually went past him with a 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 win to advance to the third round.
