With less than a week to go before the all-awaited Wimbledon Championships kicks off, tennis fans all across the world are getting impatient and excited for the oldest tennis competition in the world. With the qualifying rounds almost over and the final list of the players to play in the main round close to being confirmed, the stage is set for the Wimbledon draw to be made.
The seeds are also confirmed with a lot of fuss being generated by the fans after Novak Djokovic failed to go into the competition as the top seed and was overcome by Spanish youth sensation Carlos Alcaraz. Whereas, they are followed up by Daniil Medvedev in the third place and by Casper Ruud in the fourth position. Stefanos Tsitsipas, Holger Rune, Andrey Rublev, and Jannik Sinner take the next four places in the seeding respectively.
The women’s seeds have also been released with fan-favorite Iga Swiatek going into the competition as the top seed. She is followed up by Belarus international Aryna Sabalenka. Next up are Elena Rybakina in the third place and Jessica Pegula in the fourth position. Caroline Garcia, Ons Jabeur, Coco Gauff, and Maria Sakkari take the next four places in the seeding respectively.
With Djokovic who is coming back from a great Roland Garros win won last year’s Wimbledon and on the hunt for his eighth title this year, it will be tough for other tennis players to drift the Serbian from his goal. On the other hand, Elene Rybakina beat Ons Jabeur last year to lift the Wimbledon title but this year, the women’s championship is wide open with no clear favorites going into the competition.
Where to watch the live stream of the Wimbledon draw?
The 2023 Wimbledon Championships draw for the men’s and women’s singles tournaments will take place on Friday 30 June at 10 am BST. It can be live-streamed by viewers on the official YouTube channel of Wimbledon from the allotted time and will be conducted at the All England Club.
Players to Watch out for
With Wimbledon just a few days away from starting, the talks about the favorites going into the tournament have started yet again, and this time fans are a bit emotional. With Roger Federer retired and Rafael Nadal out of the tournament due to his injuries, the chances of a new champion have increased massively. But one name shall forever be on top of the charts, the 7-time winner Novak Djokovic who will look to equal Federe’s record of eight titles this year.
On the other hand, young players like Alcaraz and Rune have been performing beyond expectations with both the players expected to go far down the competition. Alcaraz has been regarded as the next big thing in tennis after the amount of trophies he has won in the past couple of months and no doubt he will be even more confident this time going into the competition as the top seed.
