In the first round, Djokovic defeated Pedro Cachin in straight sets with the score line of 6-3, 6-3, 7-6. The 23-time grand slam champion last played at the French Open where he was the last man standing as defeated Casper Ruud in straight sets.

The Serbian will be aiming for a deep run and would fancy his chances against the Australian in the tournament where he has been a 7-time champion.

Jordan Thompson, on the other hand, had beaten American young gun, Brandon Nakashima in a 5-set thriller. The world number 70 won the encounter with the score line of 2-6, 2-6, 6-4, 7-6, 6-3. Thompson last played at the Mallorca Open where he was defeated by Feliciano Lopez, who was playing the last tournament of his career.

The Australian’s best performance at Wimbledon came in 2021 when he reached the third round of the tournament. He would be hoping to put on a show against the world number 2.
