Women’s Singles Draw Preview and Analysis
First Quarter
Top-seed Iga Swiatek opens the draw with a clash against Chinese player Lin Zhu and can expect Sara Sorribes Tormo in the second round who starts against Martina Trevisan. Petra Martic takes on young sensation Linda Fruhvirtova with Martic looking favorite to meet the Pole in the third round. Elsewhere, Belinda Bencic, Victoria Azarenka, and Daria Kasatkina also make their mark.
Wildcard entrants Venus Williams and Elina Svitolina will lock horns in a thrilling first-round clash. Similarly, Coco Gauff and Sofia Kenin meet in the opening round with the winners of the two matches set for a third-round battle.
1st Quarterfinal Prediction: Iga Swiatek vs Coco Gauff
Second Quarter
Fourth-seeded Jessica Pegula opens the quarter taking on compatriot Lauren Davis. In a rather quarter, the only other famed players include former US Open champ Sloane Stephens and reigning WTA Finals winner Caroline Garcia. Stephens takes on Rebbeca Peterson to start her journey while Garcia meets Katie Volynets. But neither Garcia nor Stephens has been in great form lately.
Estonian hero Anett Kontaveit also features in the quarter in what’s her farewell event. The former World No. 2 has decided to bow out of professional tennis following the conclusion of the Championships. Canadian sensation Leylah Fernandez marks her presence with a clash against Kateryna Baindl with the winner most likely taking on Garcia in the second round.
2nd Quarterfinal Prediction: Jessica Pegula vs Caroline Garcia
Third Quarter
Last year’s runner-up and this year’s sixth seed Ons Jabeur headlines the third quarter with a clash against Magdalena Frech. Bianca Andreescu could well be her third-round opponent with the Canadian starting against Anna Bondar. Brazilian heartthrob Beatriz Haddad Maia takes on Yulia Putintseva while Jelena Ostapenko will begin her campaign against qualifier Greet Minnen.
Defending champ Elena Rybakina starts her title defense against Shelby Rogers. The winner from the clash between Danka Kovinic and French veteran Alize Cornet looks likely to be the Kazakh’s second-round opponent.
Third Quarterfinal Prediction: Ons Jabeur vs Elena Rybakina
Fourth Quarter
The final quarter begins with eight-seeded Maria Sakkari taking on Marta Kostyuk. 10th-seeded Barbora Krejcikova takes on local girl Heather Watson. Teen sensation Mirra Andreeva is also present in the quarter as she’s confirmed for her Wimbledon debut.
2nd seeded and one of the title favorites Aryna Sabalenka takes on Hungarian Panna Udvardy to start her campaign. Varvara Gracheva and Camila Giorgi will battle out to take on Sabalenka in the second round with the Belarusian looking favorite certainly for the first-round match.
Fourth Quarter Prediction: Aryna Sabalenka vs Maria Sakkari
Semifinals
Gauff’s ill fate of crashing into Swiatek worsens and it looks the Pole will have a straight eighth win against the American. Garcia might make a good run but Pegula’s form has been better and the American could dump the Frenchwoman out to reach the last four. Jabeur and Rybakina played in the finals last year and it could be a repeat in the quarter-finals.
But with Rybakina’s health issues lingering, Jabeur might have the chance for her revenge. Sakkari’s inconsistencies have denied her many titles and this time at Wimbledon looks like a repeat of the same story. Also with Sabalenka in much better form throughout this year, the Belarusian will be a favorite.
The semis could be then played by Swiatek and Pegula while Sabalenka and Jabeur clash. While Swiatek has been good, she is yet to prove her mettle, and the same is the story for Pegula. Both ladies withdrew in their final match before Wimbledon, Iga in Germany, and Pegula in Eastbourne doubles.
But the lack of experience of the opponent presents the perfect chance for both of them to make the finals at the Championships. Jabeur and Sabalenka will be a great battle as both have been good on the surface. However, looking at the current season, Sabalenka can deny the Tunisian for yet another time at the biggest event.
Finals: Iga Swiatek vs Aryna Sabalenka
Final
Swiatek and Sabalenka are the two women who won the Grand Slam titles this year and it’s only fitting the third Major final is played between them. Sabalenka’s better record however hints at the Belarusian winning her maiden Grand Slam title handing the Pole her first loss in a Grand Slam final.
2023 Wimbledon Champion: Aryna Sabalenka
