Wimbledon champ Marketa Vondrousova edits the WTA Finals top-8 players as construction workers in a brutal dig on the organizers

Marketa Vondrousova took a brutal dig at the organizers of the 2023 WTA Finals through her Instagram story as the Cancun stadium where the tournament will be played is still yet to be fully constructed. The tournament starts in a day’s time on 29th October and the construction process of the Plaza Quintana Roo is still incomplete. Even Elena Rybakina reacted to this unexpected situation. 

Elena Rybakina is far from pleased with the situation. She shared a post on her Instagram story that shared the details of the situation and just gave three dots below her story to show her displeasure. Marketa Vondrousova, on the other hand, took a hilarious approach to addressing the issue. She edited a photo of construction workers and replaced their faces with those of the eight participating players, trolling the organizers in the process. She put Karolina Muchova’s face instead of Maria Sakkari, as the latter replaced Karolina owing to her withdrawal due to injury. 

Mexico has a record of organizing tennis events smoothly and thus, it was not expected that a situation like this could arise. It will definitely be looked after by the time the tournament starts. The eight participants have been divided into two groups of four. There will be round-robin matches in each group, with each player facing every other player from her group once. The top two players from each group will head on to the semifinals. 

Marketa Vondrousova’s season at a glance 

Czech player Marketa Vodrousova got the spotlight all of a sudden after shocking the world following her surprise triumph in the 2023 Wimbledon Open. She defeated Ons Jabeur in the final to win the first Grand Slam of her career and jumped many places on the rankings, which helped her cement a spot in the 2023 WTA Finals. 

Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek are the top two seeds in the 2023 WTA Finals and they are considered to be the favorites to win the tournament. However, as only the very best women’s tennis players in the world will play in this tournament, the stakes are very high and anything can happen. It will be very hard to predict the outcome of this tournament. 

She has been placed in the same group for the 2023 WTA Finals as Coco Gauff, Ons Jabeur, and Iga Swiatek. It will thus be very hard for the Wimbledon Open winner to make it to the semifinals from here. Moreover, Ons Jabeur will finally get a chance to take revenge on Vondrousova for the Wimbledon 2023 final.
