Holger Rune, on his route to Wimbledon 2023’s RO16, defeated George Loffhagen in the first round and Roberto Carballes Baena and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the second and third rounds, respectively. The Danish international has dropped two sets in the entire tournament, both in the third round. In the third round, Rune, in the fifth set, was losing 8-5 in the tiebreaker but managed to win five consecutive points to reach the fourth round of the event.

Grigor Dimitrov, on the other hand, had comparatively easier opponents in the first two rounds and was easily able to win the game against them. The third round was expected to be a tough test for the Bulgarian, but the Bulgarian came out of the third round unaffected, defeating world number 10 Frances Tiafoe in straight sets. Grigor Dimitrov will try to achieve his new best at Wimbledon this year; his past best was reaching the semis.

Holger Rune against Grigor Dimitrov would be one of the blockbuster matches of the event. This would be their first encounter with each other.
