The Australian star, Nick Kyrgios revealed that he is interested to play doubles with Holger Rune. In an interview with BT earlier, Nick said this made the Danish fans excited. Nick, who reached the Wimbledon final against Novak Djokovic in the summer of 2022, is keen on partnering up with the 19-year-old tennis sensation in doubles matches, and preferably soon.
Both Holger and Nick are having a mediocre season so far in 2023. Nick missed out playing for his home country, Australia in the inaugural edition of the United Cup. Later he also missed out on the Australian Open too due to his injury. However, his surgery went well and he is currently recovering. On the other hand Holger lost to Andrey Rublev in the fourth round of the Major and then lost in the semis of Open Sud De France.
Speaking to the BT, Nick said “Whenever Holger wants, I’m ready. Maybe even later this year in a smaller tournament. I’m sure we would love to play together. We could be a pretty cool doubles pair. So let’s see. Maybe I’ll ask him.” Nick regards Holger to be a player with a huge caliber and sees a lot of potential in him to make it big.
It will be a very interesting partnership if happens because both of them are very different players in terms of their game and mindset. It will be exciting to see them play together, especially after the fact that Nick already has Thanasi Kokkinakis as his partner. Both Nick and Thanasi are good friends for a long time and have a doubles Major title to their name.
Nick Kyrgios likes to coach Holger Rune after his retirement
The doubles offer arrived only a few days after the Australian tennis player, often regarded as a ‘bad boy’, expressed his interest in coaching the young Danish player once he retires from his career. Speaking about Holger’s potential, Nick said “Holger’s potential is incredible, and it is big enough to win several grand slams during his career. It could be big for the sport of tennis”
Holger still being just 19-year-old has a lot of skill and potential to his name and can be certainly world No.1 one day. Although, his coaching positions are pretty much sorted with the likes of Lars Christensen and Patrick Mouratoglou. Hence, it’s very unlikely that this proposition takes place. On the other hand, even Nick is currently occupied with his singles career as he is looking to win a Grand Slam title before he retires.
