World No 1 Iga Swiatek had been the dominant performer of the year with her incredible performances as she won two Grand Slam titles and six other WTA singles titles. Moreover, she ended the year with more than 11,000 rankings points and became the other player to achieve this feat since Serena Williams in 2013. She has been adjudged the Player of the year at the 2022 WTA Awards.
The Pole had created records with her 37- match winning streak at the start of the year and was the undefeated champion until her third-round loss at the Wimbledon Championship. Nevertheless, her clay season was also outstanding as she had registered an 18-match winning streak before she lost her quarter-final match at the Poland Open. Iga Swiatek has also maintained to hold the top spot in the rankings for more than 30 weeks.
WTA Awards winner list is decided after voting by the members of the international media in various categories ranging from Player of the Year, Comeback Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year to Doubles Team of the Year. Their performances throughout the calendar year are taken into consideration before declaring the winner for the prestigious award.
The 3-time Grand Slam champion was adjudged as the Player of the Year whereas World No 2 Ons Jabeur has been bestowed with the Karen Krantzcke Sportsmanship Award for her gracious on and off the court. The successful doubles pair Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova have been declared the WTA Doubles Team of the year. They both together have won three Grand Slam doubles titles and were even the finalists at the Year-end Championship.

Among the nominees’ list consisting of Iga Swiatek, Ons Jabeur, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Caroline Garcia, and Elena Rybakina, the 2022 US Open champion was declared the winner. She registered 62 match wins in the season along with serving 20 bagels and even recorded 40 hard court wins. She started the season as the World No 9 but ended the year as the World No 1.
Tatjana Maria has been adjudged as the winner of the Comeback Player of the year among the nominees’ list of Donna Vekic, Serena Williams, and Daria Saville. Beatriz Haddad Maia is the winner of the most Improved player of the year among the nominees consisting of Veronika Kudermetova, Ekaterina Alexandrova, Liudmila Samsonova, and Ajla Tomljanovic.

She beat the likes of Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz to become the player with the most Top-10 wins with a tally of 15. Iga Swiatek is featured as the top-seed player at the 2023 Australian Open. She will be looking to continue her fabulous form into 2023 as she was the semi-finalist last year and will be hoping to win the title.
