Iga Swiatek has been consistent throughout the 2023 season, making it into at least the quarterfinals in almost all tournaments played. While Swiatek won four singles titles this year including the French Open title, the former World No.1 did not have a great outing at the 2023 US Open. Swiatek bowed out after losing to Jelena Ostapenko in the pre-quarterfinals. She looked devastated after getting knocked out and also losing out on the top spot in the WTA rankings.

Swiatek took a break for a while before returning on the tour with the Japan Open where she made it to the quarterfinals before losing to Kudermetova. Now, in China, Swiatek has once again put some fierce tennis on display, winning her first three matches in straight sets. While Swiatek annihilated Magda Linette in the third round winning it 6-1, 6-1, she beat Varvara Gracheva and Sara Sorribes Tormo in the second and first rounds respectively.

On the other hand, Caroline Garcia also registered a clinical victory in her first round defeating Kateryna Baindl in straight sets of 6-2, 6-4. In the second round, she had to sweat it out to beat Yulia Putintseva. While Garcia took the opening set 6-3, Putintseva made a comeback winning the second set 6-3. However, Garcia survived any scare and won the decider 6-3. The Frenchwoman took down Anhelina Kalinina in her third-round match to set up a quarterfinal clash with Iga Swiatek.

Both Iga Swiatek and Caroline Garcia had been in a good rhythm but the Pole looks fresh coming after a break. Garcia, meanwhile, played at the Sam Diego Open as well as the Guadalajara Open. While she made it into the quarterfinals in San Diego, Garcia reached the semifinals in Mexico. However, she could not convert it into a title. Now, she will have a chance here in Beijing but beating Swiatek won’t be easy.

The two players have met three times in the past and Swiatek has enjoyed an upper hand, winning two of the three matches. The last time Garcia won against Swiatek was in 2022, at the Warsaw Open.

Prediction: Iga Swiatek to win in three sets.
