The most-awaited matchup of the year will take place at the semi-finals of the ongoing WTA Finals, with the top two female tennis players in the world taking on each other with the urge to crush the hopes of one another. World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka will look to end the year in the top spot, but former leader Iga Swiatek has other plans and is breathing fire at the moment. 

Swiatek looked simply unstoppable at the moment, not allowing any of her three opponents in the group-stage matches to pose a threat. She has won all three games against Marketa Vondrousova, Coco Gauff, and Ons Jabeur.

Sabalenka, on the other hand, has beaten the likes of Elena Rybakina and Maria Sakkari, having lost just a single match against Jessica Pegula on her way to the semi-finals.

World No. 2 Iga Swiatek has been acting as an example for many out there on the tennis court. She has unfortunately dropped from the World No. 1 spot, but her form simply doesn’t do justice at all.

The 22-year-old has been in breathtaking form as well, like last season, but having achieved only one Grand Slam at Roland Garros has put her in the World No. 2 spot with all to play for at the WTA Finals. Apart from that, she has also won the Qatar Open, the Stuttgart Open, and the Poland Open. Apart from these, she was also a finalist at the Dubai Championship and the Madrid Open.

At the ongoing WTA Finals, Swiatek beat Marketa Vondrousova in the first-round matchup by 7-6, 6-0, and then went on to beat third-seeded Coco Gauff by a scoreline of 6-0, 7-5. In her last group stage matchup, she managed to beat Ons Jabeur by a scoreline of 6-1, 6-2.

On the other hand, World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka has been by far the most consistent female tennis player this season, making it to the semi-finals of all the Grand Slam tournaments.

Right at the start of the year, Savalenka bagged the Australian Open and has also won titles at the Adelaide International and the Madrid Open. Apart from these performances, she also emerged as the runner-up at the Indian Wells Masters and the Stuttgart Open. 

At the ongoing WTA Finals, the Belarussian won against Maria Sakkari in her first group stage matchup by 6-0, 6-1 but lost her second matchup against Jessica Pegula by 6-4, 6-3. In her last group stage matchup, she beat Elena Rybakina in a three-set thriller by 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

It is expected to be an epic semi-final clash between the top two women players in the world when Iga Swiatek locks horns against Aryna Sabalenka. Both stars are looking to overcome one another, hoping to put a stop to each other’s journey to the WTA finals.
