Iga Swiatek has definitely been the best player this season. She reached the semifinal of the Australian Open and then won her maiden WTA 1000 title at Doha. She backed it up with two back-to-back WTA 1000 at Indian Wells and Miami. She then had a dream start to the clay-court season where she won the Stuttgart Open and is currently riding on a 21-match winning streak.

As for Elena-Gabriela Ruse, she has had a decent outing this season. She made it to the second round of Sydney International, Australian Open and Dubai Tennis Championships. But she managed to win just one match at the Golden Swing and didn’t have a great start to the clay court season either where she lost her first match at Stuttgart. This week at Rome, she entered the main draw as a qualifier and defeated Shelby Rogers in the first round in three sets 3-6,6-1,6-4.
