Iga Swiatek

The World No.2, Iga Swiatek pulled out of the Guadalajara open in Mexico citing a tight schedule and travelling congestion as her reason. While she had earlier planned to return on Tour in this Open, she said a change of schedule haltered her journey and said that she needed to stay fit for the upcoming WTA 500 in Tokyo next month.

Swiatek further added, “I need to listen to my body and the season is very intense — our number one priority is to play it until the end in good health and plan it wisely so we wouldn’t risk an injury.” Iga’s fans all over the World who expected her to return to court in the Guadalajara Open are dejected and blaming the WTA for poor planning and scheduling of the events.

After a shocking 4th round exit at the US Open 2023, Swiatek failed to defend her title and was supposed to make a comeback at Guadalajara but backed out later due to changing schedules to which the fans have reacted on social media against the WTA for scheduling such tightly packed events very close to each other.
