Emma Raducanu has been struggling with her form since her victory at the US Open and the beginning of clay season provided a faint glimmer of hope that she would be able to bounce back, but after a quarterfinal appearance in Stuttgart, the rest of the season was disappointing for Raducanu. She was the 12th seed at the French Open but was knocked out in the second round. Raducanu is the second seed in Nottingham and she would like to make it at least to the semifinal, in her first grass season tournament.

Raducanu faces Viktorija Golubic, currently ranked number 35 on the WTA ranking list in her first-round encounter. Golubic is also struggling with her form, having been knocked out of the French Open in the first round after a quarterfinal appearance in Strasbourg. She will also want to look for the grass season with hopes of shedding down the previous baggages.
