Tara Moore has blasted the WTA for its partiality towards Simona Halep despite receiving the same doping suspension. Moore, who was cleared of doping allegations in December after 19 months away from tennis, is yet to feature in any tournament this season.

Moore tested positive for boldenone, a prohibited substance, at a WTA tournament in Bogota in April 2022. The tennis player was provisionally suspended from tennis by ITIA.

In December, the ITIA Independent tribunal found that contaminated meat consumed by Moore days before sample collection was the source of the prohibited substance. It added that it was not intentional and the 31-year-old charges are lifted. The British player has since been neglected by the WTA. However, days after Halep’s appealed ruling was celebrated by the WTA and media, Moore blasted the WTA for its partiality.

Great that @Simona_Halep is able to get back onto her feet so quickly. Shame it’s not the same for myself and other players who have been exonerated and aren’t so high on the totem pole. WTA need a rule...

She further wrote:

That if a player is found with NO FAULT OR NEGLIGENCE AT ALL they should at least be given a protective. Not even a welcome back email or even a cursory ‘here’s the membership for the rest of the year you didn’t get to play when you were falsely accused’ it’s just disheartening.

Moore was ranked 83rd in doubles at the time of suspension. She’s presently without a rank and is yet to compete in any tournament this year.

PTPA backs Tara Moore appealed doping case

Novak Djokovic backed group, the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA), has supported Tara Moore as she appeals her doping case. An appeal that the PTPA believes would take years to navigate.

Tara Moore, who won her case in December, has been through several challenges, including suspension, public scrutiny, ranking loss, and financial depletion.

It’s saddening that Tara now faces an appeal process that could take years. The PTPA has worked with Tara and her team to protect her due process throughout the last year and will continue to do so as they navigate this next challenge. We remain committed to ensuring players’ rights are upheld, and to pushing tennis’ stakeholders to implement sensible changes to a deeply flawed and unjust process.
PTPA’s statement in February

Despite the countless efforts of the PTPA to fight for the rights of struggling and local players, the tennis governing bodies have continued to play deaf for years.
