On Tuesday, Bianca Andreescu, the 2019 US Open winner, will face home favourite Jule Niemeier in the opening round of the 2022 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, the WTA Stuttgart Open. Andreescu will be participating in her first event of the year. She hasn’t competed since losing in the third round of the 2021 Indian Wells Open last October. In order to recover from an emotionally draining year, the Canadian skipped this year’s Australian Open and remained on the sidelines thereafter.
Her rating has dropped below the top-100 as a result of her extended absence from the circuit. Andreescu’s clay experience at the WTA level is minimal since she has only participated in three events. Bianca Andreescu‘s chances are bleak after a long layoff and on a surface where she has little prior expertise. The 2019 US Open winner, on the other hand, couldn’t have wished for a better start in Stuttgart. Niemeier’s overall performance and track record versus elite players do not inspire confidence. Given her playing style, Andreescu has a lot of choices to work with. Her forehand, which she can smash flat or with topspin, is her favorite.
