Former Olympics bronze medalist Vera Zvonareva has been in the headlines for the last few days as she was blacklisted from participating in the ongoing Warsaw Open. She was one of the players who was on the list published by the BNP Paribas Warsaw Open tournament to be blocked from entering Poland. The Polish interior ministry has stated the reason as state security and public safety.

The 38-year-old Russian player was prevented by the border guard from entering the country as she tried to get into Poland, traveling on a plane from Belgrade to Warsaw by using a visa issued by France. This statement was confirmed by the Poland ministry in a statement. But the main thing that has got the whole tennis world up on their seats is that the Poland board has only issued this ban against Russian players with WTA doing nothing about this decision.

The fans feel that players are not being treated right and are questioning the idea behind linking the players’ participation with the Russian government.

Fans have been left absolutely angry by the Poland board’s decision of banning Russian and Belarussian players. The fans feel that just because a player has been born in a country whose government promotes war, doesn’t make them a war promoter as well.

Fans have been bashing the Poland ministry for their way of treating these sportspersons in this way with one fan even saying, “Good start. Now ban all Russian athletes from the rest of the world.”

Sharing a wide spectrum of reactions online, here’s what fans have to say:

Some Polish fans even shared their views against their country’s way of treating Russians. One fan talked about Vera saying, “I’m so angry of this cause she(Vera) is definitely against war! But my country doesn’t care! They don’t care about a Russian speaking negatively and openly about the war! I’m so sad of it.” This incident has taken the whole sport’s fanbase by storm, with the majority of people putting pressure on the shoulders of WTA to quickly make a decision.
