Naomi Osaka
Naomi Osaka found herself in an extremely dangerous situation. She encountered a gunman when she was out. The Japanese managed to get out of the situation without facing any injuries.
However, for a period Naomi Osaka was terrified and had to hide for her life. Luckily, she had a bodyguard with her who protected her and helped her to rush away from the shooter.
This experience left a hard dent in her mind and she went on Twitter to explain what happened to her. She expressed how scary the situation was and how lucky she was to be able to escape the situation without facing any harm.
On Monday, a day after the incident the former world No,1 went on to Twitter and voiced her concern over the mass shootings that are becoming more common than ever. She addressed the problem and also requested the people to take steps to stop normalizing such stuff.
Naomi Osaka expresses her concern over mass shootings
Naomi Osaka in an open letter on her Twitter page captioned ‘Current thoughts’ talked about everything she has been through and the world we live in right now.
Naomi Osaka began by writing, “I’m not sure when it happened but over many years I became accustomed to news about mass shootings. It felt as though we just kept repeating the same terrible cycle to the point where I felt my brain turn a switch and start preparing for possibilities in case I would be in a similar situation.”
She addressed that she is genuinely scared of going out anymore, “I used to love going to the movies, now on the rare occasion, I do go l always feel my heart clench and my palms become sweaty every time I see a person enter the theater while the movie is ongoing. My experience the other day made me think a lot, I was lucky enough to have a security guard with me and I cannot imagine having to navigate through that situation by yourself, let alone being a child and it not being a false alarm.”
Finally, she talked about the constant incidents of mass shootings in America and all over the world. She also talked about the normalization of such things which is leading to increased frequency of such situations.
She wrote, “This feeling of familiarity towards these frequent devastating situations might be exclusive to people living in America but the emotions I experienced in those few minutes I was waiting in that room is something I wouldn’t want anyone to go through. I read an article the other day about how bulletproof backpacks are selling more and more and that made me cry so hard. I can not imagine a future if this continues, something has to evolve, and hopefully, it will before the better because should not be deemednormal, this is insanity.”
