The quarter-finals at the 2024 Australian Open are off to a flyer. The singles discipline was started by an epic duel between Coco Gauff and Marta Kostyuk with the match lasting for 3 hours and 8 minutes.

Next up was defending champ Novak Djokovic going against Taylor Fritz. The duo played a prolonged first game in the very first set. The American eventually managed to hold on to his serve after 17 minutes of play involving 9 deuces.

After failing to secure a single point in the 11th game that forced the tiebreaker, Djokovic was furious. During the changeover, while searching his bag, he found something missing. Despite his best efforts to silently signal to his box, he could not catch their attention.

He was then left with no choice but to scream at them. The coaching team led by Goran Ivanisevic could only look at each other as they had no response. Commentating the action, Patrick McEnroe summed it up perfectly.

You had one job!

As neither of the men conceded any breakpoint up to the 12th game, there was only one possible solution. Without a surprise, it went to the tiebreaker where the World No. 1 emerged victorious. The first set lasted 1 hour and 24 minutes before the two men could be separated.

Nole clinched the first set with only 4 points separating the two men. Despite hitting more winners, Fritz also conceded more unforced errors. The 12th seed also failed to hold on to match points on two occasions, a grave mistake against the Serb.

Tiebreaker Djokovic is a different gravy, but for today, maybe his box led to an ultra-aggressive mode of the Serb.
