Sebastian Korda came up short in the finals of the Adelaide Open on Sunday. The American went down fighting against the top seed, Novak Djokovic in a spectacular three-set battle. However, the 22-year-old stated that there were plenty of positives to take from the loss, and is already looking forward to the Australian Open 2023.

Sebastian Korda claimed the first set in the tiebreaker, however, Novak Djokovic held his nerve in the second set tiebreaker. The former world number one saved a match point to claim the second set. From there on, there was only going to be one winner, as Novak Djokovic’s experience came to the floor in the final set.

Sebastian Korda stated that it was a dream come true for him to face the 21-time Major champion in the finals of the Adelaide Open. The American had hardly put a foot wrong all week, as he had reached the finals without dropping a single set.

Yeah, very close. Unfortunate, but that’s why he’s so good. Take a lot of positives from it. Yeah, I mean, throughout the match, you kind of look over and you kind of feel like you’re dreaming. I’ve watched him play on TV basically all my life. It was an unbelievable experience for me. It was very close, but I’ll take a lot of great things from it like I always do and move forward,” said Sebastian Korda.

After a successful week in Adelaide, Sebastian Korda has already set his sights on the Australian Open 2023. The American expects to sit down with his team, and evaluate a couple of things in the coming week. “I got to sit down with my team and kind of evaluate something, see how we go forward,” said Korda.

Sebastian Korda believes that he could have a deep run at the Australian Open 2023, which commences in about a week’s time. The Adelaide Open runner-up acknowledged the fact that he did not put up consistent performances on the tour last season. However, he is confident enough of not repeating the same mistakes again this year. The youngster backs himself to beat any player on the tour, and also thanked his parents for their constant support and guidance.

“Yeah, it’s different. Last year I would sometimes have a good week, follow it with not such a great week. Kind of getting some experience under my belt. Last year I went back-to-back finals in a row, so I think I learned a lot from that. Hopefully I can use that for the coming week. Obviously different tournament, a Grand Slam. I think I believe in myself. Going forward I think I can do really well here,” said Korda.
