Novak Djokovic created history in Melbourne after clinching the Australian Open 2023 title. In a record-extending triumph at Rod Laver Arena, the Serb defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 7-6, 7-6. Before the start of the match, Djokovic was the absolute favorite and he did not disappoint anyone.

In an utter display of sheer dominance, Djokovic thrashed the Greek in little over three hours. Tsitsipas put up some resistance in between, but all in vain. Djokovic was on song and there was no chance of change in the script.

Despite ending up on the losing side, Tsitsipas produced a proud face in the post-match conversation. He was gracious in defeat and did not shy away from praising his opponent. Tsitsipas was in awe of the champion star as everyone else in and outside of the Arena.

He congratulated Djokovic for such a historic feat. “Congratulations. Not only to yourself but to have such a supportive family. I think it is very similar to the way we grew up around tennis so it’s been an unbelievable journey for you,” Tsitsipas said. “I admire what you’ve done for our sport and I think you make me a better player when are on the court,” he added.

A lot was at stake before the start of the match. Novak Djokovic was on a mission to reclaim his Australian Open title at any cost. He faced the embarrassing drama of detention and deportation last year. No matter how calm he looked on the surface there was a fire inside him to reclaim all the lost ground.

The Serbian legend is the 10-time Australian Open champion now. In the total grand Slam tally, he has leveled with his long-time Spanish rival Rafael Nadal who was ousted in the second round in an injury-forced upset.

With the title win, Djokovic has moved to the top of the ranking once again where he has already spent a record total of 373 weeks. Moving on in the season, Djokovic will target further glory to immortalize himself as the greatest of the game.
