Serena Williams, undoubtedly the greatest female tennis player of all time recently announced her imminent retirement from the sport which left the tennis world emotional and in shock. The 40-year-old American professional is an inspiration to millions around the world, even top stars in today’s game look up to Serena Williams.

Having just played four matches this season, Serena won her first one in over a year in the first round of the Canadian Open to Nuria Parizzas Diaz but was quickly eliminated in the second round of the tournament. Struggling for form, Serena Williams also bowed out with a first-round loss to Emma Raducanu at the Cincinnati Open

Tennis Twitter reacts to Serena Williams’ loss to Emma Raducanu

Having played minimal matches this season, 40-year-old Serena Williams faced a tough battle against Emma Radcanu in the first round of the Cincinnati Open. The young Brit was quick to defeat Serena as Raducanu won the match by 6-4, 6-0. After the match, defending US Open champion, Raducanu paid a tribute to Serena Williams while addressing the crowd by talking about the legend’s amazing career.

The tribute did not seem to pay off as Serena Williams did not look happy after the loss, in the twilight of her career Williams was expected to get an amazing farewell from the crowd which she has gotten even since she announced retirement. After the game, Williams did not address the crowd and went straight back to the dressing room after losing the match.

Fans took to Twitter to call out Serena over her actions and some even said that this is what the American icon is like and that it was nothing new, it is understandable that losing a match would not feel good for a serial winner but fans insisted that instead of trying to compete, Serena should be focusing on enjoying these last few matches of her career as she has nothing to prove to anyone.

After beating Williams in the first round, Emma Raducanu is scheduled to face Viktoria Azarenka in the round of 32 fixture of the Cincinnati Open.
