Borna Coric became an internet sensation with his fairytale Cincinnati Masters win. He defeated then World No. 7 Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets (7-6, 6-2) with a stunning comeback in the first set. Tsitsipas was not the only top seed, Coric defeated to seal the title. To reach the finals, Coric battled Rafael Nadal, Robert Bautista Agut, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Cameron Norrie with only dropping a set to Nadal.

Borna Coric’s journey towards his maiden Masters 1000 title has not been easy seeing that he has gone through a difficult recovery after his right shoulder surgery in May 2021. After his final win over Tsitsipas, Coric said, “I have no words, to be honest. It’s just unbelievable feeling. Like I said many times, I [am] just going to enjoy this.” Borna Coric is in the news after he imitated the iconic Kylian Mbappe‘s trademark celebration.

Fantastic Win Borna! – Fans react to Borna Coric’s incredible win and celebration

Borna Coric did a celebration similar to that of legendary footballer Kylian Mbappe. Coric tweeted, “sorry for borrowing your celebration” which was followed by a wholesome reaction from tennis fans all over Twitter. Before Cincinnati, Coric was ranked No. 152 in the Pepperstone ATP rankings with a low win percentage this season and exhausting struggles with his shoulder injury. Coric suffered a first-round loss against fellow Croatian Marin Cilic in Montreal.

With this win, Coric will go up 123 places and hold the 29th ranking in the ATP. He credited hard practice sessions and his first serve for his success in the post-match interview. The Croatian star’s historic win was applauded by many players including former Western and Southern Open winner Djokovic who said, “Bravo, King! Totally deserved. All the hard work and patience paid off. Keep going and good luck.” Currently, Coric will be preparing for US Open which will run from August 29 to September 11 in Flushing Meadows, New York.
